Best Muay Thai Shorts Brands

1. Fairtex

Fairtex Muay Thai Boxing Shorts Traditional Styles

SIZES: Small – XX-Large

PROS AND CONS
+ Quick drying
+ Satin
+ Comfortable
May run small
Limited color and design options

Fairtex is one of the most popular brands in Muay Thai. These higher end shorts are the gold standard of Muay Thai shorts for good reason.

I bought my first pair of Fairtex shorts about 2 years ago and have trained in them almost weekly, and I’ve never had an issue. Their quality is just a bit better than my other shorts from Infightstyle, and I’d rank them on the same level as Yokkao.

If there’s one thing to be weary of with Fairtex is the sizing, they usually do run small. I’m a 32 waist and I had to size up to an L

If you’re open to spending the money and want to buy 1 quality pair of shorts, you won’t regret getting these.

2. Fluory

FLUORY Muay Thai Fight Shorts

SIZES : X-Small – 4X-Large

PROS AND CONS
+ Comes in many designs
+ Tear-resistant
+ Lightweight
+ Moisture wicking
Sizing problems (small sizing)

You’re not going to beat Fluory’s value. These are more affordable shorts (at about half the cost of Yokkao or Fairtex shorts) with none of the usual drawbacks.

I would only avoid these shorts if you’re taller and larger. Like other shorts you may have to size up, but I’ve foudn that these do tend to ride a bit high on the thigh.

3. Anthem

Anthem Athletics Infinity Muay Thai Shorts

SIZES: Small – 3X-Large

PROS AND CONS
+ Comfortable
+ Modern design
+ Lightweight
+ Moisture wicking
 Limited color and design options

Anthem shorts are made with more Western sizes in mind. So with these you can actually buy your usual size.

I’m a 32 waist and their M worked well for me, but keep in mind these are Muay Thai shorts and will be on the shorter side.

Some reviews said they had flexibility issues with the fabric. So if flexibility and freedom of movement is priority for you, you many want to avoid these and go with other, more flexible shorts like those from Elite or Fluory.

4. Elite

SIZES: X-Small – XX-Large

PROS AND CONS
+ Affordable
+ Great Value
+ Simple Designs
Limited Sizing Options

For the price, these Elite shorts are a great buy. The material feels pretty durable and flexible and while I haven’t trained in these as much as my other shorts they seem to rank up there with the other affordable shorts.

If you’re concerned about sizing, I would still recommend sizing up since they do have a drawstring if they are a bit loose.

Why You Can Trust This List

I have spent close to 30 hours combing through reviews of popular Muay Thai shorts on amazon, reddit, mma forums, and retailer sites to come up with the detailed and comprehensive reviews below.

The goal for this post was to list as most shorts as possible and provide as much detail as possible to help you find your preferred shorts to train Muay Thai in.

While I cannot honestly say I have worn and trained in all of the shorts on this list, I have trained in several of them. My current weekly rotation are between my Fluory and Fairtext shorts.

Tips for Buying Muay Thai Shorts:

-Many Muay Thai shorts (especially those made in Thailand) may run small especially when compared to Western sizes so be prepared to size up

-What you pay for with more expensive shorts are quality of construction and quality of materials used. Whether you prefer to spend more on one high end pair that will last or go the more affordable route, we have shorts recommendations for both.

-If you plan on competing, make sure the Muay Thai shorts you buy don’t have pockets

-If you really aren’t a fan of Muay Thai shorts don’t feel pressured to wear them. Some of my training partners just train in MMA, atheltic, or running shorts and don’t have any problems

What to Look for in Quality Muay Thai Shorts

Material

When trying to find high-quality Muay Thai shorts, one of the most important factors to think about is the fabric that they are made out of.

It is best to look for shorts constructed from high-quality, long-lasting fabric designed to resist the demands of training and fighting. Shorts for Muay Thai are often made of satin, nylon, or polyester, satin being the most common among athletes.

The silky smoothness and light weight of satin make it a popular fabric choice. In contrast, the strength and breathability of nylon and polyester also make those practical options.

Design

There is a wide range of styles available for Muay Thai shorts, from classic to modern. While some fighters prefer a more traditional look with solid-colored shorts, others prefer bold, flashy designs.

Another common design feature of Muay Thai shorts is the side slits, making it easier to move around and perform other techniques, including high kicks.

In addition, the length of the shorts should be of a size that is sufficient to give protection while yet being of a length that is adequate to allow mobility.

Closure Type (elastic band, drawstring, button, tie, hook & loop)

Another essential factor to consider when choosing Muay Thai shorts is the type of closure. The most common closure types are elastic bands, drawstrings, buttons, ties, and hook & loops.

Closures like buttons and ties provide a more secure fit than elastic bands and drawstrings, which are famous for convenience. Hook-and-loop fasteners are commonly used in competitive shorts since they can be loosened or adjusted in seconds.
